Goodrington & Youngs Park TQ4 6BU

Goodrington Park is a natural habitat for swans, geese and wild birds. This is ideal picnic area and safe for all the families with children. Being part of the famous Youngs Park and literally a stone´s throw from Goodrington Beach and Quay West, Goodrington Park offers truly all family fun with Bumper Boats, Swan Pedalos, Spanish Cafe, Ice Cream, Drop Slides, Crazy Golf, Junior Quads, Large Boating Lake and beautiful walks.

Goodrington & Youngs Park has a very interesting history going back some 350 years, in fact what is now the boating lake was then known as May´s pool, a large watery lagoon, Stories soon perpetuated that it was a bottomless pit and parents would warn their children to stay away from it. The mith was given more weight when in 1667, a chap called Richard Thorne fell of his horse and drowned there. Many years latter when Goodrington park was reclaimed it was found that this myth about the laggon, that had lasted for 100´s of years was in fact only 2 feet deep!

In the park there is a lone grave called "The Major´s Grave", It is not really known who this is, but goodrington park used to be consecrated ground and 300 French sailors who lost their lives in the Napoleonic wars are reputedly buried here. So the mystery of the lone grave is that of a Major who was supposedly killed in action, but because he was English and a Major, he had the privilege of a head-stone and a marked grave.
During the Napoleonic war there was a hospital on the sea front in Goodrington Park which after many years as a private house then as a hotel it is now known as the Inn on the Quay, a family friendly eatery pub which is part of the Brewer´s Fayre chain, with plenty of outside seating.
