South West Coast Path

Paignton to Brixham

On a beautiful sunny day this must be one of the most rewarding experiences one can have, as well as good exercise, taking in the most magnificent views of Torbay and in the distance across Lyme Bay, the coasts of Sidmouth, Lyme Regis, and on a few really clear crisp days with no heat haze, Chesil Beach.

The coast path from Paignton starts at Paignton Harbour, down the steps to Fairy Cove, then up the steps to Roundham Head, this will lead you to Goodrington Sands Beach and a nice stroll along the promenade to the other end of the beach, then turn right under the railway bridge where you will find the start of the coast path to Brixham.

After about 300 metres along the coast path from Goodrington Sands Beach you come to Saltern Cove, a site of special scientific interest and a local nature reserve, continuing up the hill to Sugar Loaf, which is the top of an extinct volcano, where the views are truly magnificent. Continuing along the costal path for about 1.5Km you arrive at Broadsands, a blue flag beach. A short distance on from Broadsands you arrive at the pretty beach of Elberry Cove, where the path then goes through woods before emerging at the edge of Brixham Harbour.
