Paignton Regatta is 169th years old. Many years ago the Regatta week centred around the trials and tribulations of the various sporting disciplines including sailing, gig racing, hockey, football, cycling, tennis and rowing to name but a few. Although you can still find some of these core activities in the programme, Regatta has moved on significantly and this year there is an all-new daytime entertainment programme. New for 2016 is the creation of the new Regatta stage, a 42sqm construction on Paignton's Central Green, together with a large event arena. These two spaces will be the focus of the nine day entertainment extravaganza.
This year the stage also comes alive over four evenings with a series of Regatta Rocks! events, with some fantastic headline tribute acts on the main stage including The Bee Gees, Robbie Williams, Olly Murs, Kylie Minogue and Neil Diamond.
Of course, some time-honoured favourites are still on the programme, including the Bay´s biggest firework display. This year´s fireworks will be on Thursday 11th August at 9:30pm. Other returning events include:
Beat The Tide - teams build the biggest sandcastle they can and wait to be knocked off by the incoming tide. Last team on their castle is the winner; Round-The-Pier swim - a fun event with categories for people of all ages and abilities; Fun Dog Show - showcasing dogs over nine categories, with the winner scooping a family holiday; Cycle races and the Regatta mile running race - taking place at Paignton Velopark.
The daytime entertainment programme starts at 10am and finishes at 5:30pm every single day, with evening events starting at 7pm. If you have a programme, you won´t miss a thing! Whichever of events you attend, you and your whole family will have a super time.
